ABOUT
The Centre for Advancing Law and Technology Responsibly (ALTeR) operates at the critical intersection of law, technology, business, government and sustainability. We bring together diverse expertise to address the regulatory and governance challenges of emerging technologies through rigorous forward-thinking research, innovative and impactful education and training, and strategic partnerships with the goal to create solutions that address our time’s most pressing challenges.
WHAT WE DO
Research
We conduct legal and interdisciplinary research that shapes policy and regulatory practices in emerging technologies—from AI governance and digital compliance to Big Tech accountability, blockchain and decentralised autonomous organisations, gov tech and public procurement innovation, consumer protection in digital markets, and sustainable technology adoption. Our work spans private sector regulation and public sector transformation, examining how law interacts with technological change to address inequality, vulnerability, and access to justice.
Impact & Collaboration
We collaborate with businesses and start-ups on regulatory compliance (including blockchain, crypto assets and AI), government agencies on procurement reforms and gov tech initiatives, partner with NGOs and consumer protection organizations navigating digital markets. Through workshops, training programmes, and advisory partnerships, we help organisations leverage technology responsibly while aligning innovation with sustainability goals—from public sector digital transformation to sustainable procurement practices and fair consumer contracts in technology-driven markets.
Education
We prepare the next generation of legal professionals to navigate technology and sustainability-driven landscapes through specialised courses, supervisions and mentoring as well as facilitation of immersive student experiences such as legal tech hackathons, moot courts and hands-on experiences that combines legal thinking with computational, technological and sustainability literacy.
Knowledge Sharing
We disseminate our findings through academic publications, public commentary, blogs, podcasts, conferences, and community engagement—making cutting-edge research accessible to all stakeholders.
Our Commitment
True innovation must be anchored in human dignity and environmental sustainability. By bridging law, technology, and ethical governance, we strive to ensure that tomorrow’s breakthroughs serve not just economic growth but people and the planet—whether through private sector innovation or public sector transformation
